Next season's structure - Steve
Following on from the InTouch item (which I am sure you all fully understood) it would seem that level 6 and 7 league sizes have been agreed - from Dec newslatter:
ENGLISH CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT NEXT SEASON – 2009-2010
As you will be aware the Rugby Football Union has been looking at the structure of
the game below the National Leagues – the so called Rugby Landscape initiative.
Proposals have now been drawn up for next season. The South West Competitions
Committee at its recent meeting made some decisions about the format of the
leagues in its area for next season but wishes to hear from the eight constituent
bodies before finalising the structure, particularly at level 8 and below.
It is likely the RFU National Cup competitions will end after this season with the
possible exception of the Vase competition at the lower levels.
In the light of the this the SW have made the following decisions
Level 5 - SW1 (which will be renamed National 3 South West) will increase
from 12 to 14 clubs. Despite the new name, it will remain part of the South
West.
Level 6 - SW2 East and West (which will be renamed SW1 East and West)
will also increase from 12 to 14 clubs
Level 7 - Western Counties North and West will increase to 14 club leagues
Level 7 - Southern Counties North and South will remain as 12 club leagues
Below that it is the South West’s intention to structure the leagues after hearing from
the various constituent bodies as to their wishes for their areas. Depending on the
fate of the RFU National Vase competition local competitions may be arranged to
give meaningful rugby for those playing in leagues of 12 clubs or less on the
Saturdays currently occupied by the Vase.
To ensure we provide the best structure for the clubs in the South West you are
urged to give your club’s views to your local Constituent Body Competitions
Secretary as soon as possible so they can report back to us to enable us to draw up
our plans early in the New Year.
