The Lion Knight Dinner - Bill Page
An extra dinner this year (and this time in our clubhouse) as we have been lucky enough to secure the services of one of rugby’s truly great men, Sir Ian McGeechan. Previously referred to by rugby journos as ‘The Lion King’, we have chosen to dub him ‘The Lion Knight’ so do come along to listen to him and to meet him. Ian will be speaking to us in a “Q & A” format after dinner so fire in any questions that you might want to ask via email or letter to my address, as below. The ‘interviewer’ will be the excellent Dave Larham, Community Rugby Manager of London Wasps. We will also have another well known rugby guest with us for the evening.

Now Performance Director of Bath Rugby, Sir Ian was previously Director of Rugby for London Wasps – and earlier in his career for Northampton. Of course he is best known for his extraordinary record with The British & Irish Lions – two tours as a player and five as a coach, latterly as Head Coach in South Africa last year. He has 32 Scottish caps – 9 as captain.

We will be fundraising on the night via a raffle and a ‘heads and tails’ (please bring a £5 note for the latter !). All fundraising proceeds will be shared by the club and STUBS – the local charity for which Sir Ian is the Patron and which raises money to buy ‘Tickets for the Troops’ for sporting and other events. Do please give strong support to our raffle as we have chosen not to do an auction on this occasion. Good raffle prizes are urgently needed so if you can help please contact Simon Cook : Simon.Cook@simplyhealth.co.uk – tel. 07879 890870.

Please return the attached form as soon as possible, with your cheque. We cannot accept any bookings by email or telephone – the only method of booking is by returning the attached form by post with a cheque. As ever the system is ‘first come, first served’ and we do not make an exception to this.

This is a Club Dinner and open to all paid up members. The food and wine standards that we have set for previous dinners will apply ! Dress code is lounge suit or blazer or smart jacket – and tie. We do not presume to suggest attire for the ladies ... but just to stress that the ladies are welcome ! Your tickets will be posted to you by mid September, along with other information.
